Emerging role of artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinic. AI represents an opportunity for technological advancement to improve IVF success. AI may assist the clinician in developing an optimal patient-specific treatment regimen to improve IVF success. Technological advancements in infertility treatment has led to many unprecedented achievements in the recent past. Scientific breakthroughs and newer related discoveries, especially in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) treatments, have massively augmented its success rate. Customised treatment backed by technical know-how is key to its success, bolstering the confidence of couples embracing these procedures at larger scale, and realising their dreams of parenthood. By deploying the latest technology at each stage of treatment and thus, becoming a process-driven organisation, Indira IVF has been able to achieve success stories much higher than industry standards.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) technologies have introduced automation, standardisation and increased accuracy levels in ART treatments at various stages. Its deployment assists the doctor in developing a customised patient-specific treatment regimen to improve IVF success. This technology brings valuable insights for the embryologist evaluating eggs, sperms and embryo growth thus, making its implementation highly valuable; its utilisation has consequently, increased manifold in recent times. AI provides increased accuracy for predicting human egg fertilisation and embryo development since it is free from any human intervention and bias. It is used for choosing the best embryo from the larger cohort. Furthermore, AI system can analyse implantation and determine the embryo(s) that will exhibit higher implantation rate once introduced inside the uterus. The accuracy level of this system is approximately 70% at present.
AI determines the uterus and endometrium condition suitable for proper implantation by uploading ultrasound images into the system. Thus, if a patient doesn't have the right uterine conditions for implantation, there can be corrective surgeries or another cycle can be initiated. Apart from this, AI is also helpful in decreasing chances of miscarriage by eliminating embryos that are similar to past examples of embryos that have caused miscarriage. This technique is able to predict the same with a 77% accuracy.
